BitKeep wallet victim of an $8 million hack

BitKeep, the most popular crypto wallet in Asia, suffered a cyber attack on Boxing Day. The hackers managed to steal more than $8 million including over 4,000 BNB, $5.4 million USDT, 200,000 DAI and 1,233 ETH. Fortunately, the BitKeep team managed to trace the hackers’ movements.

BitKeep loses $8 million in cyberattack

BitKeep, a popular Asian wallet with over 6 million users suffered an attack on the evening of Monday, December 26. According to PeckShield, the hackers urged users to download a new version of the application, which unfortunately was compromised. As a result, they were able to steal $8 million, including more than 4,000 BNB, 5.4 million USDT, 200,000 DAI and 1,233 ETH.

The BitKeep team quickly responded by stating that they were investigating the attack. It then warned them to transfer their funds to other credible wallets downloadable from Google Play and App Store for safety.

In addition, the team invited all users affected by the attack to submit any relevant information related to the hack via a Google form. It also promised them to refund the funds they lost.

In addition, security firm Web3 Supremacy Inc reported that the author behind the BitKeep hack was mixing cryptos mined via SideShift and FixedFloat. Two platforms that provide easy exchange services.

BitKeep freezes hacker funds transferred to multiple addresses

The BitKeep team announced that some of the funds stolen by hackers in the cyberattack have been frozen.
