Bitget, a major cryptocurrency exchange platform, has just published a study highlighting the motivations and habits of crypto investors around the world. Conducted between May and August 2023 among 1,500 people, the survey reveals that financial goals diverge widely by region.
Asia’s quest for personal financial independence
In Asia, particularly in South Korea and Japan, improving individual living standards comes out well ahead, at 46% and 41% respectively. There is even a gender gap, with women aiming more for financial independence.
This trend contrasts with countries such as Malaysia and Taiwan, which focus on improving family incomes. It also contrasts with Europe and the USA, where individual and family aspirations are balanced.
Amounts invested reflect financial culture
According to Bitget, when it comes to amounts invested, there are major disparities between national financial cultures. China stands out from the rest, with much higher amounts invested, 18% of Chinese respondents invested between $50,000 and $100,000 in cryptos, and 19% between $100,000 and $500,000.
Conversely, in Europe and Turkey, the majority of cryptocurrencies are invested in amounts between $1,000 and $10,000. These discrepancies reflect the heterogeneity of investment behavior across national cultures and varying risk appetites. The study by Bitget offers valuable insights into the diversity of motivations and profiles of crypto investors worldwide.
