The adoption of Bitcoin is often talked about. It is expected to change the daily lives of citizens in various states of the world. However, Bitcoin conferences are rarely held in the continent most concerned: Africa! Fortunately, the first Africa Bitcoin Conference (ABC) is here to right this wrong.
Note: Coinpri is a media partner of the event. Event co-founded by one of our editors.😘
Africa, Land of Man and Bitcoin
While there’s no denying that 2020 and 2021 saw massive adoption of the crypto, not all continents have adapted it on the same scale. In Africa we had an increase in Bitcoin usage of almost 1,200% between June 2020 and July 2021!
A drastic increase that can be explained by several reasons:
- Africa is the continent with the lowest rate of banking;
- Corruption in many states;
- Inflation of local currencies.
Not surprisingly, the big winner of the adoption is Nigeria, which ticks all the boxes. The local government has certainly tried to stem the “Bitcoin epidemic”, but the Streisand effect has only accelerated its adoption and democratization in the country.
Unfortunately, Africa with its 1.4 billion inhabitants suffers from other ills slowing down an even greater adoption of Bitcoin.
If low internet speed is one of them, the main one remains education. Paradoxically, despite the strong growth of blockchain and cryptocurrencies in Africa, there aren’t many conferences on the subject. But, with the Africa Bitcoin Conference (ABC) from December 5-7 in Ghana, all that will change!
Africa Bitcoin Conference, Ghana sets the pace!
For the first time in its history, Africa will host a conference entirely dedicated to the King of Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin.
The ABC conference will take place from December 5 to 7 in Ghana at the 5-star Kempinski Hotel in Accra, the country’s capital. Coinpri will of course be there as a media partner and we will be among the 800 expected visitors.
During these 2 days, more than 70 experts will come to speak on the subject.
Among them, let’s mention :
- Jack Dorsey, former co-founder and former CEO of Twitter ;
- Ray Youssef, co-founder and CEO of Paxful;
- Alex Gladstein, CSO of the Human Rights Foundation;
- Elizabeth Stark, co-founder and CEO of Lightning Labs.
The co-founder of the Africa Bitcoin Conference being none other than our editor and Bitcoin expert Gloire Wanzavalere, we let him explain his vision of the conference:
In addition to being an educational event that aims to bring the African Bitcoin ecosystem to the forefront, we hope that ABC will be a unique opportunity for Bitcoiners from the continent to meet different market players (investors, developers, entrepreneurs, etc.) from all over the world. This will give rise to several beneficial synergies for the adoption of Bitcoin.

At the same time, the conference will be the occasion to name the grand winner of the Hackathon. Yes, what would a quality Bitcoin Summit be without its own Hackathon?
Legends of Lightning, a hackathon to drive BTC adoption
Convinced that Bitcoin is changing the world, do you want to make a difference? Then why not join the “Legends of Lightning” Hackathon?
The mission is simple: join one of the following adoption projects and help in your own way. Wallet, Finance, Social, Media, Shopping, Gaming… you’re spoiled for choice to help democratize Bitcoin!
In each category, the winners will be announced at the ABC conference and will get a prize between $1,000 and $5,000.
The global adoption of Bitcoin will primarily take place in Africa, and it’s great to finally see conferences with serious players taking place there. If you want to learn more about the conference or grab your ticket, we’ll see you here. And as usual, don’t hesitate to contact us if you go, so we can have a little tea/coffee. See you there, Coinpri out.
